How Can I Help?

Faded Sticks

Most families who call Keys need immediate help to secure services for their child. That help takes many forms. Sometimes families just need to talk to another parent; other times they want to know who in their community is a "good" therapist, a good tutor, etc.; or they want to know who at the state level can help them resolve issues with their school, mental health center, etc.

Our practice at Keys is first to solve the problem which first brings people to the organization. Once that problem is solved, many families want to help other families. Often we hear, "I don't want anyone else to go through what I have for my child." On this page, we offer some alternatives so families can get involved.

1

Join our organization, get the training to provide parent support to another family near you. Click here and someone will call notify you of trainings near you.

3

Offer to volunteer at the local mental health center.

4

Offer to volunteer at your child's school.

5

Join regional and state decision making teams to represent the concerns of families. The state and your community needs the voice of people who are current consumers of service. (Click here and someone will call to explore your interests)

6

Develop a relationship with your state and national legislators. (Click here to find out who your legislators are) Visit them, call them, write them. Often. Let them know what school and mental health services mean to your family. Respond to our calls for action. (Soon you will be able to click here to see past and present alerts).
