Home > who we are/what we do > kansas oscars > 2002 Event InformationOn June 27-28, 2002, Keys for Networking hosted the fourth annual Oscars recognizing outstanding performance for services provided to Kansas families by their school and community service providers. These awards were presented for service in the categories of Best teacher, Best case manager, Best Wraparound facilitator, Best attendant care provider, Best probation officer, Best parent support specialist, Best therapist, etc. In all, over forty awards were presented Friday night, June 28. With the Keys for Networking, Kansas Youth Leadership Council, facilitated by James Chapmyn of Chapmyn Spoken Word in Columbus Ohio, the program was held June 27 with a multi-media event where Kansas youth spoke from their expertise in mental health, special education, juvenile justice, foster care, etc to the issues of growing up using public support services. Kansas youth from across the state defined what works, what doesn’t and what might. The two day event was held at the Capitol Plaza Hotel in Topeka, Kansas and featured Barbara Huff, Executive Director of the Federation of Families for Children’s Mental Health; Thomas West and Candice Definbaugh of Canton, Ohio who spoke directly to young people on supports designed for and by youth. |
