What Is It?

TAP’N is support for schools that want help serving children who are difficult to teach. TAP’N is a group of Kansas professionals and parents who have demonstrated success in delivering community-based school/mental health connected services for serious behaviors, such as self-injurious, fire-setting, assaults, bullying, multiple suspensions, and other dangerous acts.

These people are experts using strengths based planning to achieve positive child outcomes for even the most difficult students.

How Does It Work?

TAP'N is both a training and consultation. It matches these Kansas experts to specific school identified problems and assists the school team through peer-to-peer onsite discovery and long-term support.

The school staff may select from the expertise of a statewide pool of educators, principals, school counselors, therapists, psychologists, case managers, social workers, and special education directors.

In the actual onsite process, the school presents specific student who present danger to themselves or others. The school team joins with the consultant group. Together, they set the target criteria, discover available resources, and selectively prioritize interventions for immediate practice.

The team facilitator maintains contact to promote on-going support with the school.

Who Benefits?

Teachers, students, families, and the community by promoting safety and well-being.

Who Can Receive Technical Assistance?

TAP'N is funded through a contract from SRS and the Kansas University School of Social Welfare. It is available free to Kansas's public schools. For information and an application, call Keys for Networking.
